Xanfab Space is an Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) provider based in SeaTac, WA, specializing in space applications. We take a meticulous, detail-driven approach to manufacturing, and we are seeking a motivated individual who shares our passion for quality and is eager to grow with our team.
About the Role
Xanfab is looking for a Sr. SMT Operator to run our high-mix, low-volume SMT lines end to end, from new equipment setup through preventive maintenance, and everything in between. This role evaluates machine performance, troubleshoots quickly, and owns equipment upkeep and line changeovers, serving as the first point of escalation on the floor. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Mycronic's SMT line, a proven ability to optimize changeover processes and resolve job-level troubleshooting efficiently, is meticulous, and comfortable working under magnification for extended periods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Independently set up, program, and operate the Mycronic SMT line (stencil printer, pick and place, reflow oven, AOI), including creating/editing placement and jet printing programs and optimizing set up.
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for line troubleshooting and recurring defects (feeder/nozzle issues, placement anomalies, reflow deviations); own preventive maintenance scheduling for assigned equipment.
- Perform in-process inspection using magnification and AOI to catch placement, polarity, and solder issues before boards move downstream.
- Maintain an organized, ESD-safe work area and support kitting and traceability logging.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; and 3- 6 years of hands-on SMT operation experience.
- Ability to create and edit machine programs (placement, print) for new builds, not just run existing ones.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and BOMs.
- Exceptional attention to detail; comfortable working under a microscope or magnification for extended periods.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, MES/ERP systems).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with ANSI/ESD S20.20 electrostatic discharge (ESD) control requirements.
- Strong understanding of IPC-A-610 standards and PCB assembly quality requirements
- Excellent machine troubleshooting skills and experience in quick change over
- Detail-oriented with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Additional Requirements
- This role is in-person. Occasional overtime and weekend work as business needs require.
- Regular presence on the production floor; ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 25lbs (fixtures, tooling, equipment).
- ITAR - To conform to U.S. Government International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Compensation: $42.00 - $60.00 per hour
